About Mauli Ola Initiative:
The Mauli Ola Initiative (MOI) at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) is a collective opportunity to nurture mauli ola (health) of UH faculty, students, staff, and community. MOI will include many in-person and virtual workshops to engage participants on mauli ola-focused topics throughout the year.  Specifically, we focus on groups most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic including Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and Filipino faculty, students, staff, and their families along with UHM faculty, students, and staff with disabilities and their caregivers—but all are welcome to attend the workshops.

To address health disparities among the focus populations, we return to ʻāina as a way to restore mauli ola. Through a series of hybrid (virtual and ʻāina-based) workshops, Mauli Ola Summits, and funding for professional development opportunities, our primary goals with this Mauli Ola Initiative (MOI) are to:
  1. Foster and cultivate relationships with each other, with ʻāina, and across our areas of study and practice.

  2. (Re-)learn ʻāina-based practices as a method of restoring mauli ola.

  3. (Re-)establish support systems – social supports, emotional supports, physical supports, across the various realms of mauli ola – to maintain health and well-being as a practice

Mauli Ola Initiative is a project of the UHM College of Education, JABSOM, and the Center for Indigenous Innovation and Health Equity (CIIHE) made possible by support from the Provost's Strategic Investment Initiative. Mahalo!
